Microsarea Koby, 1889, p. 561 is a junior synonym (available and invalid), see Microsolena Lamouroux, 1821, p. 65.
At the end of his monography in 1889, Koby created the genus Microsaraea on the basis of some species he had previously named Microsolena

Type Locality: Oxfordian (Upper Jurassic) from St Ursanne, Caquerelle (Switzerland)
The type material was figured and redescribed in Beauvais 1964, p. 206, pl. 21 fig. 9 and pl. 22 fig. 3, 4, 5 under the generic name of Astraraea. She described a so-called “holotype” but did not designate it among the syntypes. The 3 samples illustrated by Koby are consequently considered as syntypes.
Classification
Description
Massive thamnasterioid corallum. Wrinkled epitheca s. l. (probably a pennular envelope) covering the lower face. Radial elements are perforate, frequently anastomosed, subequal, rather constant in thickness at the scale of the whole septal sheet, straight curved or bent. Distal edge with big regular teeth, lateral faces ornamented with pennulae, no palis. Microstructure unknown. Hexameral symmetry not deciphered, bilateral symmetry marked by the curvature of septa. Endotheca not observed, columella weak and parietal without relief, synapticulae abundant, no wall.
Remarks
Koby cited 7 nominal species in Jurassic. He distinguished these species from other Microsolena by various characters that are now considered in the normal variability of this genus. Among these characters, the big size of the trabeculae and the axial structure in place of the fossa. The genus Microsaraea was used after its creation for two Cretaceous species by Prever (1909).
