palus radial elements internal region

Summary

pl. Pali a longitudinal rod or sometimes a plate, developed along the inner margins of some septa. Pali and paliform lobes can be difficult to distinguish, but growth studies show that true pali form as a result of septal substition when a pair of higher cycle septa flanking a lower cycle septum become contratingent on the lower one, which then separates into a marginal segment enclosed by the flanking pair joined to an axial segment. A palus results when, with further growth, the axial segment detaches from the apex of the flanking pair. See also Paliform lobe, Pourtal_s Plan, Septal substitution.
