interstitial increase mode

Summary

extracalicular increase in cerioid corals, in which new corallites are intercalated between the walls of adjacent (cerioid) parent corallites. However, precise information on how new corallites are initiated in relation to parent corallite structures is often lacking, and examples where this applies are referred to here as 'Interstitial'. See also 'Interstitial' increase.
