Summary

adj. Calicular cup-like structure seen at the distal end of solitary corals and on the outermost surface of colonial corals, consisting of a single centre, with or without walls, floored by transverse skeletal elements (e.g. dissepiments), and corresponding to the part of the skeleton most recently occupied by a polyp (not always preserved). See also Corallite, Centre. Cup-like structure at the distal end of solitary and outermost surface of solitary and, respectively, colonial coralla. Corresponding to the part of the skeleton occupied by a polyp.
