septal margin

Summary

the edge of a septal plate, conventionally divided into the distal and internal margin. The distal margin is the leading edge of upward growth of a septum projecting upwards in the calice. The internal margin is the edge that lies more or less parallel to the corallite axis. In many but not all septa there is a strong change of orientation between the two.
