septal insertion

Summary

the way in which septa grow, by insertion into the corallite cavity and subsequently into spaces between previously inserted septa. In transverse views of corallites, septa generally appear initially in the marginal zone, and grow radially inwards towards the axis. See also Protoseptum, Septal cycle, Septal size order.
