Senior homonym of Odontocyathus Brook, 1893 (=Acropora)

Type Species

Platytrochus coronatus Pourtalès, 1867, p. 114 (no fig.); Monotypy

Type Specimen: Holotype; MCZ 2769; Not Traced; Unknown

Type Locality: Recent: off Florida, 841 m

Type species redescribed by Cairns (1979).

Classification

Diagnosis

Differs from the nominate subgenus by having 12-18 short costal spines or tubercles (C1-2) that sometimes fuse into a continuous basal rim.

Remarks

Three exclusively Recent species.
