Type Locality: Oxfordian, St Mihiel (Meuse, France)

The neotype is a big fragment of colony with two thin sections

Synonyms

Description

Ramose meandroid corallum, locally covered by small surfaces of epitheca. Intracalicular increase producing short sinuous series with tholiform collines. Centers distinct by the curvature of septa. Radial elements are subcompact, tortuous, subequal, anastomosing, subconfluent. Distal edge beaded. Endotheca with tabuloid dissepiments. Synapticules present especially in the wall zone. Central zone of corallite depressed and occupied by some detached trabeculae. Wall incomplete generated by the subconfluence of radial elements and additional synapticules.

Remarks

Some species assigned to Meandrophyllia are not ramose like the type-species.

Distribution

  • Western Europe, Southern Europe, North Africa, South Asia; Middle Jurassic - Late Jurassic
The taxonomic boundaries with other meandroid genera is not completely clear and the distribution could be restricted. Meandrophyllia cited in the Dogger are not ramose.
