Diagnosis

Plocoid, massive, composed of large corallites. Increase intracalicular, marginal. Costosepta porous at the inner margin; micromorphology and microstructure of the mussiid type. Columella spongy, moderately developed, similar to that in Acanthastraea. Costae poorly developed, not confluent. Endo- and exotheca well developed, composed of vesicular dissepiments continuing between the corallites. Wall absent.

Description

Well described and illustrated in Chevalier 1986: 120-122.

Comparisons

In the structure od radial elements, columella and arrangement of dissepiemnt, this coral is close to Acanthastraea, from which it differs in the presence of exotheca; it is considered to be a sub-genus of Acanthastraea. From Lobophyllia and Mussismsilia it is easily distinguishable for their phaceloid growth form. From Favia differs in the structure of radial elements.
