Type Species

Placocyathus maoensis Vaughan in Vaughan and Hoffmeister, 1925, p. 317; Original Designation

Type Specimen: Holotype; USNM M353644; Verified; Dry Preserved

Type Locality: Late Miocene: Rio Mao, Dominican Republic

Type species best described by Cairns and Wells (1987).

Classification

Diagnosis

Like Caryophyllia, but with a compressed corallum and a lamellar columella.

Remarks

Three fossil species.
