Classification
Description
Massive or ramose cerioid corallum with polygonal corallites. Radial elements are compact, free, short, unequal septa. Strong bilateral symmetry due to the strongly thickened "Hauptseptum". Endotheca made of few short tabuloid dissepiments, no columella, no synapticulae, wall granulose in distal view, unknown in nature.
Remarks
Hispaniastraea was placed by their authors in the family Amphiastreidae due to the very special septal apparatus. It is worth noting that several characters (apomorphic or plesiomorphic) of the family as proposed by Stolarski and Russo 2001 are not well established: endotheca in two zones, pachytheca, Taschenknospung…Two species known. The type-species was also interpreted as a chaetetid (Chaetetes (Pseudoseptifer) murciana in Beauvais 1980f p. 30).
Distribution
