Hexastraea Volz, 1896: 90 is a junior homonym (unavailable), see Protoheterastraea Wells, 1937:75 (the replacement taxon), and Hexastraea Bellardi In Sismonda, 1871: 311 (the senior homonym).

Hexastraea leonhardi Volz has been chosen the type species of Protoheterastraea Wells, 1937:37. Heterastraea fritschi Volz obtained a new generic name Quenstedtiphyllia Melnikova, 1975:106.
