Diagnosis

Corallum forms arborescent colonies; costae covered with hispid granules; epitheca absent; corallites sympodially or unifacially directed; costoseptal rostra often present; septa arranged normally; P2 sometimes present; columella papillose; azooxanthellate.

Comparisons

Similar to Dendrophyllia but having normally arranged septa and in lacking endotheca.

Remarks

This genus and family were monographed by Cairns (2001), which included a phylogenetic analysis based on morphology. Zibrowius (1973) also revised the genus and species. Seven species, three of which are fossil.
