Type Species

Montlivaltia ? cornucopiae Milne Edwards and Haime, 1848, p. 258; Monotypy

Type Specimen: Holotype; ; Not Traced; Unknown

Type Locality: Cenomanian of France (Charante-Maritime).

Remarks

Up to now, the most elaborate description available of the type species of Ellipsosmilia d'Orbigny, 1849, was provided by Alloiteau (1957, p. 96). This documentation, however, is insufficient in that it remains unclear how this taxon differs from genera like e.g., Axosmiliopsis or Ceratophyllia. In addition, the type material has been unavailable for study. Therefore, the taxonomic position of Ellipsosmilia d'Orbigny, 1849, remains unclear.
