Bathycoenia
Tomes, 1883, p. 176
Type Species
Bathycoenia slatteri Tomes, 1883, p. 176, pl. 7 fig. 1, 8; Subsequent Designation
Type Specimen: Syntype; NHMUK R8463, R8464; Verified; Dry Preserved
Type Locality: Bathonian (Middle Jurassic) of Fairford coral bed (Great Britain)
The syntypes are composed of one dry non sectioned specimen and one sectioned specimen. The initial description by Tomes 1883 is excellent. Beauvais (1970) redescribed the type material and figured the "holotype" pl. 1 fig. 4a, (corresponding to R8463) but also 4b and 4c that correspond to another sample R8464. Both samples come from Fairford and from the Tomes' collection they are consequently considered as syntypes.
