Diagnosis

Corallum solitary, free (completely invested by polyp), usually cupolate, with a flat to concave basal septotheca; azooxanthellate; septa laminar and imperforate, composed of a single fan system of widely-spaced, compound trabeculae, each usually terminating at septal axial edge as a tall septal spine; adjacent septa united by T- or Y-shaped synapticular plates that originate from thecal base; endotheca and dissepiments absent; septa hexamerally arranged in 4 or 5 cycles.
