Type Species

Desmophyllum riisei Duchassaing, 1860, p. 61, pl. I, fig. 5; Monotypy

Type Specimen: Holotype; MSNT ; Lost; Unknown

Type Locality: Recent: St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.

The type species is well described by Cairns (1979).

Classification

Diagnosis

Corallum colonial, forming reptoid colonies by extracalicular budding from stolons; corallites ceratoid; pali and columella missing; no endotheca.

Comparisons

Differs from Desmophyllum in having a colonial (reptoid) corallum.

Remarks

Four Recent species.
