Milne Edwards, 1850, p. liii

Type Species

S. humilis Milne Edwards and Haime, 1850, p. 37, pl. 5, fig. 4; Original Designation

Type Locality: Middle Eocene: England

Type specimen described by Cairns (2001).

Classification

Diagnosis

Extratentacular budding leading to calices arranged in a plocoid fashion; corallites quite small; costae thin non-granular ridges; septa arranged normally; columella rudimentary.

Comparisons

Similar to Tubastraea but having smaller corallites and a rudimentary columella.

Remarks

Based on the poor preservation of the type and only known specimen of this genus, Cairns (2001) considered it to be a dendrophylliid genus of “uncertain position”, impossible to properly characterize. Two fossil species.
