The genus was placed within Lophoserinae by Avnimelech 1947 and Euphyllinae by Alloiteau 1952

Type Species

Aspidiscus labyrinthicus Hoppe 1922, p.70, pl. 3 fig. 3-4; Original Designation

Type Specimen: Syntype; n°?; Not Traced; Unknown

Type Locality: Coral facies of El Marara (more oftenly translittered in Djebel Moghara), Egypt. Initially announced as Oxfordian-Kimmeridgian by Hoppe and Avnimelech, these facies are considered Callovian.

According to Hoppe 1922, the type material should be in Leipzig, a duplicate collection should be in Berlin

Description

Corallum circular with a concave lower surface covered by a concentrically wrinkled epitheca s.l. Upper surface surrounded by a strip of septa in radial arrangement. Middle portion of the upper surface meandroid with short valleys and collines with walls. Radial elements are unequal, compact and non confluent on collines. Synapticules numerous especially in the upper portion of the corallum.

Remarks

A revision of the material is obviously needed. One nominal species known.
