Type Species
Seriastraea multiphylla Schaefer et Senowbari Daryan, 1978: 119, pl. 1, fig. 1, pl. 2, fig. 2, text-fig.1, 2; Monotypy Schaefer et Senowbari Daryan, 1978: 119
Type Specimen: Holotype; SMF 30748; Verified; Dry Preserved
Type Locality: Gruber-Riff at Hintersee / Salzburg, Northern Calcareous Alps. Late Rhaetian or Rhaeto-Lias
Classification
Diagnosis
Thamnasterioid. Increase by circumoral budding. Septa generally compact, thin; possible desintegration of the septal blades into thick trabeculae. Menianes protruding, their edge smooth and directed upwards. Synapticulae numerous in the intercalicular zone. Columella styliform, thick and complex in structure. Dissepiments vesicular.
Description
Well described and illustrated in Shaefer and Senowbari-Daryan 1978, and its resemblance to other thamnasterioid genera discussed. The microstructure is illustrated in Roniewicz 1989: pl.31,fig.2,3.
Comparisons
From the most similar, meniane-bearing Triassic thamnasterioid genus Thamnasteriamorpha Melnikova,1971 it differs in cirumoral budding producing very distant from each other rows of calices, thin septa showing tendency to porosity, and a mass development of synapticulae in the intercalicular zone.
Remarks
Two species are known.
