Proplacosmilia

Alloiteau, 1949 ?, p. ?

The genus is cited by Wells 1986, p. 53 with its type-species but the original citation by Alloiteau was not found. A junior homonym by Kuzmicheva 2002 was created for a Cretaceous coral.

Type Locality: Oxfordian (Upper Jurassic) of Charcenne (Haute-Saône ; France)

Description

Solitary corallum, elliptical infundibuliform calice. Radial elements are compact, straight, free, attenuated septa. Lateral faces ornamented with small regular granules uniformly distributed. Clear hexameral symmetry. Bilateral symmetry marked by elongation of the corallite, the lamellar columella and lateral S1 slightly curved. Major septa may join the thick lamellar columella. Endotheca made of numerous vesicular dissepiments. Wall of unknown nature.
