Classification

Remarks

By its features observed on the upper surface of the corallum, the genus Plesiodiploria closely corresponds to the genus Anisoria, the latter of which has recently been transferred from the Family Agariciidae to the Meandrinidae on the basis of the study of thin sections (Loeser, 2010, questionably assigned it to the family Meandrinidae; Baron-Szabo [on corallosphere] fully assigned it to this family). No thin sections of Plesiodiploria are available yet to confirm whether these two genera are identical. Provisionally, these two genera are considered synonymous until further data are available.

Distribution

  • Southern Europe; Late Cretaceous
