Diagnosis

Cerioid. Increase by division of corallite; dividing wall founded on opposing septa. Septal sides with protruding, flat granules. Endotheca dissepimental. Wall formed of a straight or zigzag row of vertical trabeculae; septal trabeculae connect with the row of wall trabeculae.

Description

Microstructure of the type species was described in detail by Cuif 1976:113,text-fig.12,pl.11:1-6. Additional detailed descriptions are in Roniewicz 1989:33,pl.4,fig.1,pl.5, fig.3. Microstructure of other species was described in Cuif 1976: 114, and 138,text-fig.13,21, pl.14,fig.5, and in Roniewicz 1989:32, pl. 4, fig. 2-4, pl.5, fig. 1,2. Melnikova's material origin form the late Norian of the SE Pamirs.

Comparisons

Characteristic microstructure of wall, made of trabeculae ordered in a pallisaded manner, and its relations with that of septa is the feature differentiating this genus from other cerioid corals.

Remarks

Five species are known.

Distribution

the synonymy with Isastrea is very probably a mistake, not coherent with microstructure, wall and familial assignation.
