Originally described as a subgenus of Stephanophyllia. Type species well described by Cairns (1989).

Type Species

Stephanophyllia formosissima Moseley, 1876, p 561, no fig.; Original Designation

Type Specimen: Syntype; NHM 1880.11.25.156-157; Verified; Dry Preserved

Type Locality: Recent: Philippines and Indonesia, 174-236 m

The type species is well described by Cairns (1989, p. 15). Five syntypes.

Classification

Diagnosis

Corallum porous but sturdy; costae consist of thin, delicate ridges; marginal shelf present; septa lamellar and highly porous, with complex dentition; small, simple synapticulae present; columella spongy.

Comparisons

Differs from Stephanophyllia in having more perforate septa, more complex septal dentition, a thinner base, and larger marginal shelf.

Remarks

The genus was partially revised by Cairns (1989). There are four valid species, one having a fossil record
