Classification

Remarks

In contrast to the original description, the genus Ceriosmilia clearly shows columellar structures; numerous endothecal dissepiments; presence of ambulacrae; and corallites that are arranged in meandroid series with terminal forking. In addition to other skeletal features like nonconfluent to subconfluent costosepta; parathecal to septothecal corallite walls that can form double walls; corallite series separated by discontinuous tectiform collines; the genus Ceriosmilia shows close affinities to the genus Colpophyllia. Therefore, their synonymy is suggested.

Distribution

  • South Asia; Oligocene
